BrakeType

Rim or Disk

Importance: The wheel you buy must match the type of brakes on your bike. The main types are rim brakes versus Disk brakes. A wheel designed for rim brakes has two flat surfaces on the edge of the rim for the rubber pads to grip. A wheel for disk brakes must have a system to attach the disk to the wheel. Disk Types:

  - Rim: Has flat surfaces on edge of Rim for rubber pads to grip

  - 6 Bolt: cheap and readily available: 140,160,180

  - Center Lock is slightly more expensive, Has splined interface, Shimano design, 2 metals. A centerlock hub can take 6 bolt rotor by using adapters
