This is my Miyata 1000 which I use for touring trips like Port Renfrew, and also around town for fun trips. This was the best touring bike in 1986. It has a 3x5 transmission. The rear cogs are the old style freewheel. In driving it, I can't remember needing a higher gear, but I certainly use the lowest gear to grind up those hills in North Vancouver, and also to get up the big hill coming out of Port Renfrew.
