This is an aluminum frame street bike I bought for 225.00 used. It might be good for around town but no good on hills. Simplest upgrade would be a new 11-34 cassette. Changing the front crank to the standard mountain bike crank like 42/32/22 is a bigger job because the deraileur may have to be changed, or even the bottom bracket spindle.
